The Cub Scout Promise

I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Cub Scout Law

The Cub Scout Law

Cub Scouts always do their best
Think of others before themselves
And do a good turn every day.

We would be pleased to welcome your son or daughter into our Cub Pack, and hope that you will find the following information useful.

The Aim of The Scout Association is to encourage the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. This is achieved by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adult Leadership. In Scouting, we believe that young people develop most when they are 'learning by doing,' when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves.

The age range for cubs is 8 to approximately 11 years.

We meet at Leigh on Sea, and have cubs from Leigh, Chalkwell, Westcliff and Southend. Regular weekly meetings, during term time, are Tuesdays from 5.45pm to 7.30pm. You will see a calendar of events elsewhere on the website. The Pack Meeting programme is comprised of playing games and training in small groups. There are also special events such as Outings, Special Pack Meetings, Sporting Activities, and Camps.

Uniform consists of a green sweatshirt, emerald green scarf, coloured woggle (the clour of your six), navy cargo trousers or shorts, and black or brown shoes. The scarf and woggle are available from the Cub Pack. Other items of uniform can be purchased from Belchamps Shop. We also keep a stock of 2nd Chalkwell Bay yellow T-shirts and sweatshirts which are available from the pack as optional extras. You don't need to buy a uniform before attending your first few meetings, just come along in something sensible (e.g. trainers, trousers, sweatshirt) and sort out the uniform after you have settled in and decided that you want to join.

Subs are £18/quarter, payable on the first meeting Tuesday in January, April, July, and October.

Church Parade is held regularly throughout the year - see the calendar for dates. Times are from 9.45am to 11am, and every cub is expected to attend.

All the leaders in the pack give their time on a voluntary basis. If you could help at the pack, or with specialist training, please let us know. We sometimes also need help with such things as catering at camps, transport to activities, equipment maintenance, and secretarial duties.

If you would like to join then please phone Akela on 01702-476365, to arrange your first visit. This will ensure that there will be a meeting at the hall, as we sometimes go out, and we can give you details of the information that you will need to bring along. An adult is welcome to stay with a new cub for the first meeting (although we often find that new cubs are happy to wave goodbye to you after 5 minutes).
